Partners for School Wellness
The Acushnet Public Schools promotes healthy schools by supporting wellness, good nutrition, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning environment where children learn and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices. As part of this initiative, the Acushnet Schools has adopted a district-wide Wellness Policy and has established a Wellness Committee.
The Wellness Committee is charged with providing guidance to explicate the policy, monitoring the implementation of the policy, evaluating policy progress, serving as a resource to school sites, and offering revisions to the policy as necessary.
The Wellness Committee consists of the Food Service Director, the Business Manager, Principals/Assistant Principals, Physical Education and/or Health Teachers, Guidance Counselors, School Nurses, Parent Representative and a member of the Acushnet School Committee.
The Wellness Committee will meet at least four times per year to review and monitor the implementation of the Wellness initiative and policy. An evaluation report will be presented to the School Committee and general public describing the implementation of the policy. In addition, the Committee will publish at least four informational newsletters or postings to the District website each school year.
